The poppy is commonly called παπαρούνα (paparouna) in greek.  One of the goals of this blog is for me to learn the names of the several hundred species that grow naturally in the garden or that I've imported; in English, Greek and Latin.  This plant is definitely papaver but i'm not certain which one (Papaver rhoeas?).

The poppy bloom remains solitary for the time being and can be seen in the center of the photo above.  This is the experimental bed.  I call it that because (as will become clear in later posts) it is the most exposed to the elements area of the garden.
