A busy day today.  I planted a small magnolia (Magnolia stellata--purchased at Lidl no less) in the main bed; removed a young acacia that hadn't done well over the winter from the gravel drive, pruned it hard, placed it in a pot, and replaced it with another that had done much better in a more sheltered spot; planted a small Senecio cineraria (from a potted clipping from last summer) near the yucca urn; and weeded in the experimental and geranium beds.  The surprise of the day was the new leaves on the hybrid eucalyptus (Eucalyptus gunnii, i think) I planted last spring, a beautiful delicate bright red.

The first calla lily (Zantedeschia aethiopica) began to unfold. I realize that part of doing this blog is going to involve getting much better at taking photographs.  No robert maplethorpe here...

A young judas tree (Cercis siliquastrum), planted three years ago, in bloom.  although the blooms are pretty, I'm more interested in this tree for its summer foliage and its supposed hardiness which has been questionable here.  In Greek it's called κουτσουπιά (koutsoupia).
